If you book your mountains of the moon hike in Rwenzori Mountains National Park, there are legally accepted operators that were awarded management right by partnership between them and Uganda Wildlife Authority, a body that manages the Conservation of National Parks in Uganda.
The key factor that determines the cost of your Rwenzori hiking is the rate at which the operator prices his or her route for Rwenzori Summit! The Key operators of the trails are three namely
Rwenzori Central Circuit which is 50kms long and the oldest trail to operator Rwenzori Mountaineering Tours to Mount Stanley in Rwenzori Mountains National park Uganda.
Kilembe Trail which is 46kms long and the newest since its start operation year is 2009 and has been leading tours to Rwenzori Mountains National Park via Kilembe Side.
The Bukurungu Trail is the second longest after Rwenzori Central circuit and its offering wild camping in the wilderness of Rwenzori mountains.
Cost of Rwenzori Hike Permit
The price of Rwenzori Hiking permit is dependent on variety of factors as determined by the route operator! There are no standard fees set by Uganda Wildlife Authority unlike the clear cost of Gorilla permit and chimpanzee permit!
- The Cheapest Rwenzori Hiking permit is sold by Rwenzori Mountaineering Services which operates the Rwenzori Central Circuit which is the oldest within the Region and as the name suggests or evokes (Circuit) you will explore Rwenzori Mountains for 7 days, the permit costs 1470 USD per person including the accommodations in the mountains, Huts, Ranger, Meals and park Entrance!
- The Mid-range operator permit is sold by Bukurungu trail which is only recommended for adventurers and not tourists since on this trail you will use wild camping. The price for permit is 1505$ per person that includes Meals, Park entrance, Porters and ranger guides. The Above price excludes the hire of ground Tent which will use during your adventure! This trail is unique and experts in mountaineering are recommended to book their trail.
- The Luxury Rwenzori Permit is sold by Rwenzori trekking services, it offers a class above, unique and the permit costs USD 1400 excluding the park entrance which is paid separately at 35USD per day. The Price includes staying in Clean Huts, porters and meals. The Price of 1400 is for 7 days Rwenzori Tour.
Rwenzori Permit to hike Peaks
If you decide to add on extra Peak along side the Mount Stanley during your Rwenzori Mountaineering, then the cost for the permit to Mount Speke, Mount Baker varies depending on the operator you have selected.
Extra peak at Rwenzori Central Circuit costs 150USD and the same fees applies for the extra day into the Rwenzori Mountains National park. While for Bukurungu trail, the rates are the same – they try to create adventures that are unique.
Yet for Rwenzori trekking Services (Kilembe Trail) the extra is 180 USD for the extra peaks in Rwenzori Mountains National Park.
