In a remarkable achievement, a team of six adventurers from Spain has become the first group to reach the summit of Cheptegei Peak in the majestic Rwenzori Mountains.
We had booked the summit to Margherita peak but due to the close of the Margherita hiking tour, Edward informed Isaac that they replace the Margherita summit with cheptegei peak since it was also found on Mount Stanley and we openly welcomed the ideal since the main focus was the Stanley glaciers.
The team, led by experienced climber and expedition leader, Juan Carlos, booked a 5-day tour with Africasian Tours, a reputable travel agency in Spain, to tackle the challenging ascent. Africasian Tours partnered with Rwenzori Expeditions, a local tour operator that has been offering Rwenzori trekking to Margherita peak, to ensure a seamless and unforgettable experience for the team during their Uganda Safari.
The expedition began on May 18th, 2024, and concluded on May 22nd, 2025. The team’s journey started with an overnight stay at Equator Heights, a scenic lodge located at the foot of the mountains.
The next day, they embarked on the Rwenzori Central Circuit Trail, a challenging route that would test their physical endurance and mental toughness. As they ascended higher, the team was treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, including glaciers, waterfalls, and lush vegetation.
Despite the grueling climb, the team remained determined and motivated, supporting each other every step of the way. Finally, on the fifth day, the team reached the summit of Cheptegei Peak, standing tall at 4,321 meters above sea level.
The sense of accomplishment and pride was palpable as they gazed out at the stunning panorama below. “We are thrilled to have achieved this incredible feat,” said Juan Carlos, beaming with pride.
“The Rwenzori Mountains are truly a natural wonder, and we feel privileged to have experienced their beauty up close.”
The team’s success is a testament to their teamwork, determination, and preparation. They have set a new benchmark for adventure seekers and mountaineers, inspiring others to take on the challenge of conquering Cheptegei Peak.
As they descended back to base camp, the team members were already making plans for their next adventure, promising to return to the Rwenzori Mountains in the near future for another thrilling experience.
