Climb Trails on Rwenzori Mountains

When planning and booking a Rwenzori trekking tour , your advised to select which route to use when trekking so that you can be aware of the camps & Huts to be used during your expedition into the rwenzori Mountains National Park booked with Rwenzori Expeditions.

Rwenzori Mountains National Park has three routes or trails which are used by trekkers during their expedition into the wilderness of Uganda with experienced guide to act as your compass up to the summit on Mount Stanley.

Mountain climbing in the Rwenzori Mountains

The keen climbers can choose between two scenic routes to the top of the Rwenzoris which is Africa’s third-highest peak. The trails pass glacial lakes, gorgeous viewpoints, dramatic mountain passes and lush valleys.

The central circuit trail: this challenging, seven-day climb provides a circular tour of the high Rwenzori. From the trailhead at Mihunga, the route ascends the Bujuku Valley via Nyabitaba for acclimatization before reaching the peaks. The clients joining the central circuit after Bujuku will transverse the Scott Elliot and Fresh field passes to descend through the Mubuku Valley. Climbers can scale the snow peaks though many consider the exceptional scenery ample reward for their exertions.

Kilembe Trail: The recently reopened Kilembe Trail ascends the southern slopes of the Rwenzori from a trailhead at Kilembe near the town of Kasese. The route along the lovely Nyamwanba valley passes glacial lakes and some stunning viewpoints before joining the central circuit at Lake Kitandara. The standard route scales Mount Baker though the scenery makes shorter treks rewarding enough.

Note :

Both routes offer splendid acclimatization profile, with fast climbing at the beginning of the trail, passing through the various vegetation zones of montane forests, bamboo, rain forest and into the giant heather zone in the first two days and after leveling with the slower climb. You will encounter some of the boggy and non-boggy areas within the trail routes. Check on our team to guide you on booking the Trip.
