THE CLIMB TO RWENZORI MOUNTAINS- POPULAR TREKKING TOURS
The Rwenzori mountains lie between latitudes 00 06’ and 00 46’ North and longitudes 290 47’ and 300 11’ East. The mountain range out of which the park has been gazetted is much larger in size running over a hundred kilometers in the north-south direction and fifty kilometers in the east-west direction. Over 75% of the range is found in Uganda with the rest falling in the DRC. In the DRC the mountains are part of the Parc National des Virunga (PNV) and are contiguous with Rwenzori Mountains National Park ( RMNP) for about 50 km.
The altitude is literally breath taking balanced on the spine of the DR Congo & Uganda. Rwenzori is not a child’s play park so its advisable to have attempted a small mountain before daring Rwenzori Mountains so you require mountaineering experience to enable you reach Margherita peak( 5109M ). Owing to the tough terrain, relation isolation, & over shadowing of Mount Kilimanjaro at 5895M and Mount Kenya 5199m sees the park remain invisible to tourists.

Rwenzori Mountains National Park has three trekking trails, the most popular is the Rwenzori Central circuit, The Bukurungu Trail and the kilembe trail.
Rwenzori Central Circuit is approximately 24 kilometers to get to the peak. This will take you around 7 days to complete the hike. The trail starts from Mihunga gate.
Kilembe Trail , its longer than the Central Circuit owing to its professionalism, comfortable mountain Huts and quality equipment. it takes 8 days to reach to the peak.

GETTING AROUND: AIRPORT SHUTTLES AND FLIGHTS TO KASESE
Rwenzori Mountains National Park (RMNP) is accessed by road from Kampala via Mbarara – Kasese to Rwankingi, or from Kampala via Fort Portal – Mubuku to Rwankingi. Rwankingi is the park headquarters. From the Park headquarters to the park boundary at Mihunga gate is 17 km. By air, chartered planes are available from Entebbe / Kajjansi to Kasese town and from Entebbe/Kajjansi to Bundibugyo town from which a visitor can plan to enter the park at designated routes.
The quickest way to get to Rwenzori mountains National Park from Entebbe is to fly which costs $260 – $460 and takes 2h 17m ( Using Bar Aviation or Aero Link ) . What is the distance between Entebbe ( Kampala ) and Kasese? The distance between Kasese and Kampala is 342.62Km. The road distance is 423Kms via Mbarara Road which is a bit longer than the first option.
