Itinerary

The 2 Days Mahoma Trail adventure tailored by Rwenzori Expeditions starts from Ibanda Village which is the last town to Rwenzori Mountains National Park at the RMS offices where the Safari Guide will brief you about the Rwenzori Mountains , as you get your hiking gears ready for the walk with the most certified park rangers.

The distance to be covered on Mahoma Trail is 28 Kms , if your not experienced hiker or mountaineer then consider the option of 3 Days Mahoma Hiking Loop which is available

Day 1: Nyakalengija 1560m – lake Mahoma Camp 2500m

This days starts with breakfast early in the morning, thereafter proceed to the RMS offices in Ibanda where you will meet with your experienced Rwenzori guides, cooks, porters . Later on begin your trek from the park gate at 1700m, for a measurable distance of 6.5km to Lake Mahoma Camp, in 7 hours gaining an elevation of 1000 meter elevation. Past the gate, the walk through the montane forest zones, where you can numerous bird types, a three-horned chameleon, black and white colobus monkeys, and Rwenzori turaco birds, all endemic to the forest, lunch will be enjoyed at Omukakiza camp  and later proceed to lake Mahoma camp where you will pitch the tents and enjoy your dinner, overnight in the wilderness of Rwenzori Mountains.

Day 2: Lake Mahoma Camp through Nyabitaba Camp to Nyakalengija

After Morning Camping Breakfast in the wilderness of Lake Mahoma in Rwenzori , you will start to descend down to  Nyalengija covering a distance of 8km in 3hours. Drop further to the park gate via the Mubuku River and farmland.  You may have booked your overnight stay in one of the recommended hotels in the rwenzori mountains with us .
