Rwenzori mountains national park

This is a Uganda national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site protecting the highest point of Uganda and also the third highest on the African continent after Kilimanjaro and Mount KenyaMargherita. At a total surface area of 1,000 square kilometers, the park also hosts other amazing features like waterfalls, lakes, glaciers, wildlife, birds and unique vegetation covers.

Bwindi Impenetrable national park

Mgahinga Gorilla Trekking

Located in the southwestern part of Uganda, Bwindi impenetrable national park is along the Democratic Republic of Congo border next to Virunga national park. The park protects the montane and lowland forest – Bwindi Impenetrable forest which is only accessed on foot. The park is known for protecting half of the world’s endangered mountains gorillas that can only be site in four destinations on the African continent. Other species at the park include; over 120 mammals, birds, butterflies, frogs, and several primate species.

 

Queen Elizabeth national park

Spanning the districts of Kasese, Kamwenge, Rubirizi and Rukungiri, Queen Elizabeth national park is the second largest park of Uganda with an area of 1,978 square kilometers. It is known for its abundant wildlife including the four of the big five African games – African elephant, buffalo, leopard and lion. Other animals include; kobs, hippos, topi, waterbuck, Nile crocodile, spotted hyena, chimps, warthogs and others. Also, the park is a home to the rare tree climbing lions and these can be seen around Ishasha sector in Rukungiri district.

Kalinzu forest reserve

Located in southwestern part of Uganda, Kalinzu forest reserve us a protected area in Bushenyi district covering an area of 137 square kilometers. The reserve is characterized by diverse ecosystem consisting of dense tropical rainforest vegetation and wide range of wildlife like over 378 bird species and several primates especially chimpanzees. Other primates include; vervet monkeys, black and white colobus monkey, blue monkeys and others.
