3 Days Mikeno Hike
3 days Mikeno Hike is one of the greatest experiences to encounter during your safari to Democratic Republic of Congo on the African continent. Mount Mikeno is one of the extinct volcanic mountains of Virunga Mountains along with Mount Nyiragongo, Mount Nyamuragira, Mount Karisimbi, Mount Bisoke and Mount Sabyinyo. Standing at a height of 4,437 meters, Mount Mikeno is the second highest peak in the Virunga Mountains after Karisimbi and the 13th highest mountain on the African continent.
Mount Mikeno lies completely within Virunga National park and it is known for hosting the endangered mountain gorillas that live on its slopes. The word Mikeno means poor and this comes because of its difficult slopes. Due to its slopes, the mountain is considered as the hardest to hike among all the other Virunga Mountains.
However, reaching the summit is one of the best encounters as you can views the east African rift that is still forming from 30 million years.
